This course is designed to train the lay person in emergency care of the sick and injured until more advanced emergency care providers arrive. Students are taught bandaging, splinting, simple spinal immobilization, basic life support, oxygen treatment, and emergency childbirth. On passing the class and payment of fees the students become Louisiana State Certified First Responders.

This course is designed to provide the rescuer with the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform lifting and stabilizing of objects during an incident. This course is two days of hands-on training to move objects, gain access, and free trapped victims utilizing low and high-pressure systems and stabilization devices. This gives students more in-depth knowledge of airbag bag systems and their uses that is not covered at the basic firefighter level. Airport Firefighting (NFPA 1003)
|
This course provides the necessary skills needed to function as a firefighter at or near an operating airport. Participants will receive advanced training in 11 subject areas set forth by the FAA. Participants will also receive training in other areas such as tank farm fires, propane gas fires, aircraft search and rescue, military aircraft familiarization and extensive hands-on extinguishment of hydrocarbon fuel fires. In addition to live fire training, participants receive classroom instruction, including tabletop exercises.
This course meets and/or exceeds the standards set forth by NFPA 1003, Airport Firefighter Professional Qualifications†and FAA/FAR part 139. To finish the course, each participant is required to complete 16 practical skill stations.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Airport Firefighter certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program.

CBRNE Structural Collapse Technician (DHS# LA-002-RESP)
|
This eight day course is designed for rescue team members and their respective agencies to function as an Urban Search and Rescue Specialist, especially in response to a structural collapse as the result of a catastrophic event. The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in order to effectively enter a collapsed structure caused by either natural disasters or incidents involving acts of terrorism. Topics presented include: principles of construction, load patterns, collapse patterns, hazard identification, principles of concrete, and awareness of weapons of mass destruction.
The overall goal of this course is to help emergency response personnel understand how to operate at the rescue technician level and as a member of a Rescue Team at a structural collapse incident that could include the use of a CBRNE agent. The course will consist of classroom instruction as well as practical applications. A large portion of the class will involve hands-on training in eight consecutive 10-hour days. This course fulfills selected objectives of NFPA 1006, 1500 and 1670, in addition to the FEMA USAR training guidelines.
We strive to provide our students with the opportunity to learn and put into practice the most recent NFPA and FEMA guidelines. We have been fortunate enough to acquire full-time and contract instructors who make student proficiency their first priority. At least one instructor per course has a certificate of successful completion of a train-the-trainer course designed around the FEMA curriculum, the course is in compliance with the ODP conditions for DHS funding of the courses.

Confined Space Rescue Technician 40 Hour
|
This course concerns rescues involving confined spaces and includes lecture, skills training, and scenario-based exercises. The class covers federal and state regulations, use of specialized equipment for atmospheric monitoring, commercial entry and retrieval systems, and employment of rescuer constructed retrieval systems. Participants gain understanding of confined space hazards and the requirements of the new laws. Special emphasis will be given to rescuer safety, scene management, patient care and movement, and construction and operation of retrieval systems. Course adheres to standards set forth by NFPA 1006; 1670; 1500; 1983, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 and 29 CFR 1910.134.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Confined Space Rescue Technician Levels I/ II certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program. This course is a 186 hour State Bureau of EMS approved training program, which is based on the National EMS Education Standards. Applicants may apply for Louisiana certification after becoming a Nationally Registered EMT. At the successful completion of this training program and required testing, the entry level EMT will be able to: evaluate the patient’s condition, either medical or trauma, and provide the appropriate assessment based treatment, which includes patient packing and handling designed to minimize patient discomfort and prevent further injury. This course is designed provide the knowledge and skills for successful certification in Instructor III. The Instructor III course satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041, Chapter 6 provides the tools necessary to obtain certification. It is designed around classroom lectures and group interactive exercises to improve the student’s abilities to act as a fire instructor at the administrative level. This includes responsibilities such as instructional resource management, policy development, and program design. This class may also involve assignments & projects that the student will have to complete outside of the scheduled class time each day (homework). Skills taught include: Training record administration, policy development, Instructional staff selection, development, & evaluation, purchasing / course costing, program & curriculum development, course administration, development, & evaluation.

The Heartsaver First Aid and CPR AED courses are designed to prepare people to provide first-aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED use in a safe, timely, and effective manner).
Heartsaver courses are video-based, instructor-led courses that teach students critical skills to respond and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until someone with more advanced training arrives and takes over.

Industrial Confined Space Rescuer (Non Cert)
|
This course concerns rescues involving confined spaces and includes lecture, skills training, and scenario-based exercises. The class covers federal and state regulations, use of specialized equipment for atmospheric monitoring, commercial entry and retrieval systems, and employment of rescuer constructed retrieval systems. Participants gain understanding of confined space hazards and the requirements of the new laws. Special emphasis will be given to rescuer safety, scene management, patient care and movement, and construction and operation of retrieval systems. Course adheres to standards set forth by NFPA 1006; 1670; 1500; 1983, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 and 29 CFR 1910.134.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Confined Space Rescue Technician Levels I/ II certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program. It is recommended that students attend a Rope Rescue Technician course before attending this course.

|
The course provides a general knowledge of basic fire behavior, operation within an incident management system, operation within the emergency response operations plan for the site, the standard operating and safety procedures for the site and site-specific hazards. Also included is NFPA 472 Chapter 4 competency (Hazardous Materials Awareness and response to WMD). This course covers all aspects of the NFPA 1081 standard (Incipient Level) to prepare the student for the incipient level certification exam. Good reading skills and study habits are essential. The class further provides instruction in initiating a response to a reported emergency including application of portable fire extinguishers and single hand lines. Instruction on fixed fire protection systems and communication also provided. Instruction is limited to class D PPE (work clothing) without the use of SCBA.

Structural Collapse Rescue Refresher
|
This 2 day refresher course is designed for rescue team members and their respective agencies to function as an Urban Search and Rescue Specialist, especially in response to a structural collapse as the result of a catastrophic event. The refresher course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in order to effectively enter a collapsed structure caused by either natural disasters or incidents involving acts of terrorism. Topics presented include: principles of construction, load patterns, collapse patterns, hazard identification, principles of concrete, and awareness of weapons of mass destruction.
The overall goal of this course is to help emergency response personnel understand how to operate at the rescue technician level and as a member of a Rescue Team at a structural collapse incident that could include the use of a CBRNE agent. The course will consist of classroom instruction as well as practical applications. The class will involve hands-on training in two consecutive 10-hour days. This course fulfills selected objectives of NFPA 1006, 1500 and 1670, in addition to the FEMA USAR training guidelines.

|
Students will discuss key points of cache resupply priorities and procedures
Students will discuss packaging options for operational efficiency and protection during transport
Students will learn documentation requirements for air and ground transport of hazardous materials
Students will be instructed in tracking methodologies to include manual, database and barcode systems
Students will understand where Logistics fits into US&R task force organization and will be prepared to offer input during operational planning and briefing sessions during deployment
Students will be instructed in emergency requisitioning procedures
Students will learn site selection criteria and ongoing management of a task force base of Operations, with emphasis on related health, sanitation and safety issues
Students will become familiar with logistical issues involved in demobilization process
Students will learn procedures of documentation for cache rehabilitation following an activation and procedures for making additions and deletions to task force cache
Course Objectives (Manager):
Students will discuss supervisory and personnel management techniques
Students will be given instruction in equipment inventory and tracking procedures as defined in FEMA US&R Property Accountability System.
Students will be prepared to interact with Task Force Management Team in planning and briefing sessions during activations
