Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

This course is designed to train the lay person in emergency care of the sick and injured until more advanced emergency care providers arrive. This class is geared to industry, law enforcement and fire services that need emergency medical training but not to EMT-Basic level or above. Class is 48 hours long. Students are taught bandaging, splinting, simple spinal immobilization, basic life support, oxygen treatment, and emergency childbirth. On passing the class and payment of fees the students become Louisiana State Certified First Responders.

Advanced EMT - EMT Advanced (AEMT)
|
The Advanced EMT (AEMT) has training in specific aspects of advanced life support (ALS) as found in the NHTSA 2009 National EMS Education Standards including intravenous (IV) therapy, certain types of advanced airway management and assisting with administration of certain medications. The role of the AEMT closely resembles the EMT Intermediate (I1989) curriculum. Individuals trained at the EMT Intermediate (I1999) curriculum were able to perform certain skills such as intubation and manual defibrillation, which are not performed at today’s AEMT level. Note: The EMT Intermediate (I ‘84 and I ‘99) certification levels have been replaced by the AEMT. This course is approved by the National Registry of EMTs and the Louisiana Bureau of EMS, and consist of a minimum of 175 hours (beyond the EMT level) of classroom instruction in addition to hospital clinical and ambulance field patient care in which student must meet set numbers of clinical skills objectives such as: (i.e. medication administrations, successful IV starts, successful ventilations, assessment and treatment plans for patients with various medical conditions, assessments on pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and documented patient transports as the “team leader”). In addition to meeting psychomotor and cognitive requirements, students will also be graded (as pass/fail) on the “affective” learning domain as it relates to student’s timeliness, preparedness, and behavior. After successful course completion, students will be allowed to participate in the National Registry psychomotor and written exams. After successfully completing this process and obtaining certification from the National Registry of EMTs as an Advanced EMT, the student is eligible to apply for a Louisiana License as an Advanced EMT.

This course is two days of hands-on training to move objects, gain access, and free trapped victims utilizing low and high-pressure systems and stabilization devices. This gives students more in-depth knowledge of airbag bag systems and their uses that is not covered at the basic firefighter level. In addition to live fire training, participants receive classroom instruction, including tabletop exercises.
This course meets and/or exceeds the standards set forth by NFPA 1003, Airport Firefighter Professional Qualifications†and FAA/FAR part 139. To finish the course, each participant is required to complete 16 practical skill stations.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Airport Firefighter certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program.

CBRNE Structural Collapse Technician (DHS# LA-002-RESP)
|
This eight day course is designed for rescue team members and their respective agencies to function as an Urban Search and Rescue Specialist, especially in response to a structural collapse as the result of a catastrophic event. The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in order to effectively enter a collapsed structure caused by either natural disasters or incidents involving acts of terrorism. Topics presented include: principles of construction, load patterns, collapse patterns, hazard identification, principles of concrete, and awareness of weapons of mass destruction.
The overall goal of this course is to help emergency response personnel understand how to operate at the rescue technician level and as a member of a Rescue Team at a structural collapse incident that could include the use of a CBRNE agent. The course will consist of classroom instruction as well as practical applications. A large portion of the class will involve hands-on training in eight consecutive 10-hour days. This course fulfills selected objectives of NFPA 1006, 1500 and 1670, in addition to the FEMA USAR training guidelines.
We strive to provide our students with the opportunity to learn and put into practice the most recent NFPA and FEMA guidelines. We have been fortunate enough to acquire full-time and contract instructors who make student proficiency their first priority. At least one instructor per course has a certificate of successful completion of a train-the-trainer course designed around the FEMA curriculum, the course is in compliance with the ODP conditions for DHS funding of the courses.

Confined Space Rescue Technician 40 Hour
|
This course concerns rescues involving confined spaces and includes lecture, skills training, and scenario-based exercises. The class covers federal and state regulations, use of specialized equipment for atmospheric monitoring, commercial entry and retrieval systems, and employment of rescuer constructed retrieval systems. Participants gain understanding of confined space hazards and the requirements of the new laws. Special emphasis will be given to rescuer safety, scene management, patient care and movement, and construction and operation of retrieval systems. Course adheres to standards set forth by NFPA 1006; 1670; 1500; 1983, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 and 29 CFR 1910.134.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Confined Space Rescue Technician Levels I/ II certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program. It is recommended that students attend a Rope Rescue Technician course before attending this course.

E0960: NIMS ICS All-Hazards Division/Group Supervisor Course
|
The goal of this professional development course, E/L0960 Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS), is to provide emergency responders from local, Tribal, State, Federal and private-organizations with an overview of key duties and responsibilities of a Division/Group Supervisor within an Incident Command structure for all incident types (Type 4 - Type 1).
The learner must achieve a minimum passing score of 75% on final knowledge assessments or demonstrate mastery on performance assessments or research assignments to earn the IACET CEU.
Selection Criteria: NIMS ICS Position Specific training shall be completed by personnel who will be required to gain a certificate of training and the credentials to function in an ICS Organization, such as an IMT, as a member of the Command, General Staff or as a Unit Leader. These criteria will be verified on the student enrollment request by endorsement of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) such as the State/Tribal Training Officer or the course manager.

This course is a 186 hour State Bureau of EMS approved training program, which is based on the National EMS Education Standards. Applicants may apply for Louisiana certification after becoming a Nationally Registered EMT. At the successful completion of this training program and required testing, the entry level EMT will be able to: evaluate the patient’s condition, either medical or trauma, and provide the appropriate assessment based treatment, which includes patient packing and handling designed to minimize patient discomfort and prevent further injury. EMTs are trained in the use of AEDs and the multi-lumen airway.

Industrial Confined Space Rescuer (Non Cert)
|
This course concerns rescues involving confined spaces and includes lecture, skills training, and scenario-based exercises. The class covers federal and state regulations, use of specialized equipment for atmospheric monitoring, commercial entry and retrieval systems, and employment of rescuer constructed retrieval systems. Participants gain understanding of confined space hazards and the requirements of the new laws. Special emphasis will be given to rescuer safety, scene management, patient care and movement, and construction and operation of retrieval systems. Course adheres to standards set forth by NFPA 1006; 1670; 1500; 1983, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 and 29 CFR 1910.134.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Confined Space Rescue Technician Levels I/ II certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program. It is recommended that students attend a Rope Rescue Technician course before attending this course.

Course outcomes will include:
Developing a local community coalition to address the WUI and create FACs.
Creating a Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
Facilitating partnerships, improving networking and enhancing resource allocation abilities that address WUI fire risks/issues.

This 2-day course is designed to develop the managerial, administrative, and leadership skills necessary for the fire chief or chief officer who desires a leadership position in their department. This course addresses critical knowledge and skills pertaining to the responsibilities of a fire chief. Topics covered include Local politics and the role of the chief officer. Liability and risk management. Resources and items of knowledge needed to become a first-time leader in a new position in an agency.
The primary recommended candidates for this course include chief officers in a career, volunteer or combination fire department or emergency service organization. The secondary recommended candidates are new career chiefs, department leaders or emerging leaders of a fire department or emergency service organization. This course is open to all interested emergency services personnel, including volunteer, career and allied professionals. FETA offers Paramedic Refresher courses in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Louisiana Bureau of EMS and the National Registry of EMTs. This class meets NREMT (La.) re-certification requirements for NATIONAL CONTENT 30 Hours.
Note: Additional Local and Individual content required. Hours must be completed for re-certification purposes.
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate from FETA. Course documentation is kept on file at FETA.

PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care in your area and decrease mortality. They follow the principles of trauma care developed by the Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program.

If you're looking to start a career in firefighting, the Fire & Emergency Training Recruit Academy is your best bet. Our 18-week program provides comprehensive entry-level instruction, including physical training, classroom instruction, and live application simulations. We offer an 186-hour State Bureau of EMS-approved Emergency Medical Technician course based on the National EMS Education Standards. Applicants may apply for Louisiana certification after becoming a Nationally Registered EMT. Structural Collapse Rescue Refresher
|
This 2 day refresher course is designed for rescue team members and their respective agencies to function as an Urban Search and Rescue Specialist, especially in response to a structural collapse as the result of a catastrophic event. The refresher course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in order to effectively enter a collapsed structure caused by either natural disasters or incidents involving acts of terrorism. Topics presented include: principles of construction, load patterns, collapse patterns, hazard identification, principles of concrete, and awareness of weapons of mass destruction.
The overall goal of this course is to help emergency response personnel understand how to operate at the rescue technician level and as a member of a Rescue Team at a structural collapse incident that could include the use of a CBRNE agent. The course will consist of classroom instruction as well as practical applications. The class will involve hands-on training in two consecutive 10-hour days. This course fulfills selected objectives of NFPA 1006, 1500 and 1670, in addition to the FEMA USAR training guidelines.
