Brief Description: Enroll in the 18-week Fire & Emergency Training Recruit Academy to become an entry-level firefighter

Full Description: If you're looking to start a career in firefighting, the Fire & Emergency Training Recruit Academy is your best bet. Our 18-week program provides comprehensive entry-level instruction, including physical training, classroom instruction, and live application simulations. We'll instill the honor, integrity, and discipline necessary to excel in the fire service. We offer a 186-hour State Bureau of EMS-approved Emergency Medical Technician course based on the National EMS Education Standards. Applicants may apply for Louisiana certification after becoming a Nationally Registered EMT. Upon the successful completion of this training program and the required testing, the entry-level EMT will be able to evaluate patients' medical or trauma conditions and provide appropriate, assessment-based treatment, which includes patient packing and handling designed to minimize patient discomfort and prevent further injury. EMTs are trained in the use of AEDs and the multi-lumen airway. Hazardous Materials Awareness (NFPA 470), Hazardous Materials Operations (NFPA 470), Fire Fighter I and II (NFPA 1010), Vehicle Extrication, and Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator – Pumper (NFPA 1002). Upon graduation, you'll receive IFSAC/ProBoard Certifications in Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations, Firefighter I/II, and Apparatus Driver Operator/Pumper, opening doors to a successful career in the fire service. Prerequisites: Physician Statement - Must provide a statement from your physician (less than six months old) attesting to physical ability of student to perform duties of EMT and a current immunization status as recommended by the Office of Public Health; in addition to immunization status, must provide documentation of:
*Hepatitis B immunization or declination form stating refusal to take immunization series (or may be in the process of completing the immunization series)
*T.B. testing within last 6 months
*Free from communicable disease
Proof of health insurance is required

Resources Required: PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION RELATED TO THE RECRUIT ACADEMY. There are Multiple Prerequisites for this program, including a physical exam (within the last 6 months), all listed in the EMT/Candidate Package, which is available in the document library in the Acadis portal. PLEASE SUBMIT RECRUIT AND EMT PAPERWORK INTO THE PORTAL.

The price of the Academy is $575.00. Fees include the EMT book, the clinical bag associated with the program, Fundamentals of Firefighter Skills and Hazardous Materials Response book, and all certification testing related to the Recruit Program.

Reporting Instructions: Please report to building two (2), classroom three (3), at the times stated in the candidate package.
Recruit Orientation will take place on January 8 & 9, 2026. Orientation will promptly start at 8:00 A.M. in Building Two (2), Classroom Three (3).
