Full Description
If you're looking to start a career in firefighting, the Fire & Emergency Training Recruit Academy is your best bet. Our 18-week program provides comprehensive entry-level instruction, including physical training, classroom instruction, and live application simulations. We'll instill the honor, integrity, and discipline necessary to excel in the fire service. We offer an 186-hour State Bureau of EMS-approved Emergency Medical Technician course based on the National EMS Education Standards. Applicants may apply for Louisiana certification after becoming a Nationally Registered EMT. At the successful completion of this training program and required testing, the entry-level EMT will be able to evaluate the patient's medical or trauma condition and provide the appropriate assessment-based treatment, which includes patient packing and handling designed to minimize patient discomfort and prevent further injury. EMTs are trained in the use of AEDs and the multi-lumen airway. Hazardous Materials Awareness (NFPA 1072), Hazardous Materials Operations (NFPA 1072), Fire Fighter I and II (NFPA 1010), Vehicle Extrication, and Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator – Pumper (NFPA 1002). Upon graduation, you'll receive IFSAC/ProBoard Certifications in Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations, Firefighter I/II, and Apparatus Driver Operator/Pumper, opening doors to a successful career in the fire service. Prerequisites
Physician Statement - Must provide a statement from your physician (less than six months old) attesting to physical ability of student to perform duties of EMT and a current immunization status as recommended by the Office of Public Health; in addition to immunization status, must provide documentation of:
*Hepatitis B immunization or declination form stating refusal to take immunization series (or may be in the process of completing the immunization series)
*T.B. testing within last 6 months
*Free from communicable disease
Proof of health insurance is required

Reporting Instructions
ORIENTATION WILL TAKE PLACE ON SEPTEMBER 31 AND AUGUST 1, 2025. ORIENTATION WILL START AT 08:00 AM. Please report to building two (2), classroom three (3), at the times stated in the candidate package.
