Only students who complete this program will be eligible for certification testing.  

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING

As a Fire Service Inspector, I should be able to complete the following responsibilities and demonstrate the skills and knowledge that involve the preparation of correspondence and inspection reports, handling of complaints, and maintenance of records, as well as participation in legal proceedings and maintenance of an open dialogue with the plan examiner and emergency response personnel. They should also be able to complete duties that involve fire safety inspections of new and existing structures and properties for construction, occupancy, fire protection, and exposures, means of egress, determine proper requirements for the storage of flammable and hazardous materials, safe operation of equipment and processes, determine the appropriateness of emergency plans for occupancy and the ability of the fire department to gain access to a facility.

Fire Inspector II is designed for entry-level investigators who may be called to investigate fires or explosions in their jurisdiction. NFPA 921, Guide for Fire & Explosion Investigations, is the accepted manual for fire investigators. Students will be prepared to start investigating fires and explosions using the scientific method of fire investigations, following NFPA 921 and meeting the NFPA 1033 Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator. Subjects covered are as follows: Administration, Basic Fire Methodology, Basic Fire Science, Fire Patterns, Building and Fuel Gas Systems, Legal, and others.
